The Royal Pavilion & Garden

The Royal Pavilion is a grade I listed former royal residence situated in the heart of Brighton. Built as a coastal retreat for King George IV, this exotic palace is an eclectic mix of both indian and regency architecture. Inside the palace are an array of stunning rooms, each with their own hidden story. You can see Queen Victoria’s elegant chinese inspired bedroom, a luxury banqueting hall, the King’s kitchen, an opulent saloon, the domed music room and the indian hospital gallery. Steeped in history, there is much to learn about this architectural gem. There are plenty of different tours and exhibitions to book, just visit brightonmuseums.org.uk.

Just outside the palace is an exquisite garden transformed by architect John Nash in 1815. Unlike the formal design of many other royal gardens, Nash was inspired by the free form of nature; utilizing winding pathways and irregular tree groupings. Many plants were imported from outside Europe, including China, in keeping with the interior design of the palace.
