London to Brighton Cycle Ride – Update
Following recent Government updates & following consultation with all relevant authorities and local councils, we are delighted to confirm that the London to Brighton Cycle Ride will go ahead on Sunday 19 September 2021, however, there will be some additional measures in place at the event in order to comply with local council regulations.
Social Distancing
Throughout the day, participants will be asked to observe social distancing. We will be working to maximise space to ensure this is possible at all venues, asking participants to keep moving to prevent crowd build up and reminding everyone of this before and during the ride.
Lunch Stop
We are no longer able to have a large gathering for lunch. Instead all participants will be given a pre-packed ‘grab & go’ meal upon crossing the finish line. More details of this will be confirmed in due course.
Start & Finish Sites
In order to minimise the build up of big crowds, we’ll be allocating participants start-times – this will help us to spread everyone out along the route and avoid too many people arriving at Clapham Common at the same time. We have asked all participants to estimate how long they think the ride will take them, we will then use this to allocate times with those expecting to be the quickest starting first. People who are hoping to ride together are asked to provide the same estimated completion time to give themselves the best chance of being allocated the same start window. All riders who registered as part of a group will be given an option that ensures they receive the same start time as their team mates.
Due to the nature of participants spreading out over the course of the day, there will still be an opportunity to celebrate your achievements at the finish line, and our charity village will still be in operation as normal. We will however be asking participants not to spend too long at the finish line, and as a result we will unfortunately not be having a bar at this year’s event. There will however be plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants open for business close to the finish line in Brighton.
Health and Safety Information
All participants have also been asked to fill out a short form with some key health & safety information. Anyone who fails to do so will not be able to participate and will lose their place in the ride.
Capacity
In order to be allowed to go ahead, we have had to agree to reduce our capacity of the ride. We have contacted all participants to let them know what this means for them and the next steps they need to take, if any.

The last 15 months have been difficult for us all, but we’re more than aware of the devastating impact the pandemic has had on income for our charity partners. We feel a responsibility to do everything we can to ensure the event goes ahead in some capacity and help these vital causes to raise some much needed funds. Whilst it may look a bit different to normal, we’re pleased to have this opportunity in September, and are looking forward to sharing a very special day with as many of you as possible.
